Ind. Law - A convicted sex offender in White County is challenging new state law

Sophia Voravong of the Lafayette Journal Courier reports today in a story that begins:

MONTICELLO -- A convicted sex offender in White County is challenging a new state law that is forcing him to move from the home he chose so his children could be near their school.

The man identified only as John A. Doe in court documents is following in the footsteps of a similar offender against children who recently filed a petition in Tippecanoe County, asking that he no longer be considered a threat to kids.

White County's John Doe was told to move by the end of July.

"He needs relief, he needs help," John T. Million, Doe's attorney, said Friday afternoon. "He's lived in his house for 15 years and all of a sudden, the act of living in his home is a Class D felony? Boom -- he gets a letter that he has to move."

A list of some earlier, related ILB entries may be found here.
