Ind. Law - Right of publicity law changes proposed
The House Judiciary Committee tomorrow, Jan 17th (upon adjournment in Rm.156-D) will hold a hearing HB 1133, which appears to expand Indiana's current rights of publicity statute, IC 32-36-1-8. The ILB has had a number of interest entries on this topic:
- Nov. 3, 2006 - "Hoosiers' tactic to squeeze O.J. Simpson defeated"
- May 5, 2007 - "Court Rules for Heirs of a Man Who Took Pictures of Monroe"
- July 13, 2008 - Soul singer James Brown and the right of publicity
- Nov. 16, 2010 - "When should a person’s right to control his image trump the free-speech rights of others to use it?"
- Dec. 26, 2011 - "Artists: Can You Be Sued for Including a Real Person in Your Painting?" (includes link to an excellent NYT story)
